Fish Oil May Protect Against Breast Cancer

omega3 fish oil

A study conducted by doctors at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Washington, found promising evidence that postmenopausal women who regularly consume fish oil supplements are at a 32 percent lower risk of developing invasive ductal breast cancer than those women who do not. However, the Center noted that this research is still in its early stages and a public health recommendation is premature at this point.
The healthy fatty acids found in fish oil – Omega 3 and EPA and DHA – have already been proven to boost brain and heart health.

Other excellent sources of healthy fatty acids are walnuts and flax seed – to avoid health risks linked to pesticides, choose organic and natural varieties whenever possible.

One More Reason to Go Organic: Pesticides Linked to ADHD

A Harvard University study concluded that a constant, relatively low-level exposure to common pesticides found on fruits and vegetables doubles children’s risk of developing attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Over 1,100 kids aged 8 to 15 participated in the study, which revealed that kids with higher levels of organophosphate were twice as likely to have ADHD as kids with undetectable levels of organophosphate.

Fruits and vegetables high in pesticides include strawberries, peaches, apples, blueberries, celery, bell peppers, spinach, and kale – fruits and vegetables we usually eat without peeling. Fruits and vegetables that require less pesticides include onions, avocados, pineapples, kiwis, and sweet potatoes, and these are fruits and vegetables we normally eat without the skin anyway.

What to do? Buy organic whenever you can – at least of those fruits and vegetables that have higher levels of pesticides.
